In case you missed all the pictures and chatter on Twitter around the Computers in Libraries conference in DC (#CILDC), here’s a bit of what you missed from the Incubator crew!
Erinn and Holly ran an epic 8-hour preconference workshop on Monday with four incredibly curious and dedicated librarians from public, state, and academic libraries.
We shared some of our favorite creativity exercises from amazing teachers like Lynda Barry, and talked about how to re-wire our brains to shut off the inner editor that won’t let the magic and mess of creativity out. Here’s a sample of what we did:
Drawing with both hands at once (yes, anyone can do it!)
Turning shapes into monsters (and then turning those monsters into comics!)
We also talked a bit about the professional practice of building programs as an extension of collections (we call this Programming as Collection Development), and we held a mini Book to Art Club with collage supplies and lots of chatting!
And one lucky participant won a copy of The Artist’s Library to take home– he graciously tweeted his reading experience! Thanks, Ian!
We had a great time sharing our perspective on incubating creativity and imagination in the library, and getting to meet and make with such wonderful colleagues!
On Tuesday, we did the quick-and-dirty Cliffs Notes version of our talk to a room of nearly 150 people (seriously, there were two screens!) and tons of you tweeted the things you learned and the inspiring ideas you had while we talked.
We are so glad to be a catalyst for new and exciting services and programs, let me tell you!
If you’re interested in learning about our workshops for conferences or professional development in your library, please shoot us a note! libraryasincubatorproject@gmail.com, or hit us up on Twitter at @IArtLibraries. We’d love to hear from you!
Cheers,
Erinn
