One of the most documented programs on the LAIP is the Bubbler at Madison Public Library. We not only have a personal investment in the maker and creativity programming (Laura, Holly, and Erinn have all worked for Madison Public Library at some point in our careers!); we also view the multifaceted, partnership-based program as an inspiration for other libraries who are looking to get away from the focus on a permanent makerspace and instead embrace maker programming anywhere, at any time, for anyone.
Now we’re really excited to share with you a new(ish) resource from the Bubbler and Teen Librarian Jesse Vieau: Teen Bubbler is a special place to showcase work made by young adults, like the Direct Message exhibition, or book cover and mural painting projects, or the always-popular stop-motion animation.
In addition to the areas of the site that share work made by young adults, Teen Bubbler also has a section dedicated to programs and resources so that teens and others can find out how to get involved with maker programs at the library and in the Madison area.
When looking at a resource like Teen Bubbler, I am reminded of how important and impactful publishing or exhibiting young peoples’ work can be, especially for young people who are or have been marginalized or pushed out of the public school system (check out Teen Bubbler’s community-based learning program Making Justice for more on this).
