ARTCACHE, today’s featured program from the Columbia College Library in Chicago, presents an innovative way to explore a library and engage with art along the way. The Aesthetics of Research, housed in the Columbia College Library, announces ARTCACHE, an interactive exhibit included as part of Chicago Artists Month from October 1st-November 15th, sponsored by the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events.
Part geocache, part hidden exhibit, part library scavenger hunt, the ARTCACHE, gives you an opportunity not only to participate in this interactive exhibit, but also to have some fun in locating it, to learn more about the library, and to brush up on your research and problem solving skills. From the 1st Floor Circulation Desk, you can set off on your search, which will take you through highlights of Chicago art, culture, and history (as well as all five floors of the Columbia College Library) to lead you to the hidden cache. For both artists and non-artists, the cache offers an opportunity to sign the logbook, to peruse the items within the cache, take a souvenir piece, as well as contribute, if desired, your own small piece to the collection.
A note congratulates participants on discovering the cache at the end of their library exploration!
This week of programming joins the current roster Aesthetics of Research initiatives, which include artwork on display in the library’s first floor gallery space, small works available in vending machines near the library entrance at 624 S Michigan, and the Zine Exchange, an ever-changing display of zines and small press projects from the Columbia Community.
An ongoing series of exhibits, events, and other shenanigans, The Aesthetics of Research series dedicated to exploring the role that libraries play in artistic process, creative community building, and resource-sharing in the arts.
