We got a great question via Twitter several weeks ago about whether we knew of a comprehensive list of academic, public, and special libraries and archives that currently host or are interested in hosting artists in residence. While the LAIP features library artists in residence on a regular basis (and we know that people use these features to develop their own library artist in residence programs!) we’d like to expand this to become a more formal list of libraries who support artists in residence.
Please note: we include performers, writers, poets, visual artists, musicians, designers and makers under the umbrella term “artist” for our artist in residence question.
But to make this happen, we need YOU. Does your library host an artist in residence? Send us your information! We need:
- The name and location of your library
- What type of library (special, archives, museum, public, academic, etc.)
- The name of the residency program
- Contact information for the primary person in charge of the residency program
- A brief (1-2 paragraph) explanation of the program – paid or unpaid? What are the expectations for the artist? What are the expectations for the library?
Send this information to the Library as Incubator Project at libraryasincubatorproject@gmail.com with RESIDENCY somewhere in the subject line.
We will start working on a page on the LAIP website that compiles all of this information. Please share this call amongst your arts and library communities so that we can get as comprehensive a list as possible! ~Laura
